Second Life, Virtual Life

Why buy when you can rent CHEAP!

The idea of owning land in Second Life is very, very enticing. I was thinking, if I can’t own land in my first life why not own one in Second Life. So, I went around shopping for cheap land. Using SL’s in-world search I entered a few keywords and visited a few of the listed results that looked promising. I searched the classifieds, land sales and the places tabs.

Second Life

I teleported to various sims to check the offers, the realtors and the land itself. By the way, I am on a basic account so I can’t really own land so I have to find a realtor or a land developer to get land either through purchase or through rent/lease. Many of the offers have this covenant thing and it is still way above my ability to pay.

My searching and teleporting to various sims continued until I appeared near a rental box that reads Palace Land and above it was written 199 L$ per week for a 512 sq. m. parcel of land with a limit of 117 prims. 199 L$??? That was cheap and all you have to do was pay the rental box. It was easy as renting a vendor space at Pod Shop.

Now, the offer was very, very tempting. This was located at Scaramanga, a mature sim. So, I flew around to scout the area and besides the banned parcel which looked like hell, the immediate surrounding was very nice. I then went back to the box to get more information and I was directed to the website. There I found out that the parcel was available for both commercial and residential use. I also IMed Richard Palace, the owner, in-world to ask some question but later did not since my question was already answered by the website. I also checked out his other lands for rent in Vyacheslav, Blue Quill, Malyshkin, Helsing and Flagg. I did not visit the ones with water in the names.

After seeing the other locations, I went back to Scaramanga and decided that it was the best for me because of the surrounding area and it was flat. The other lands were somewhat elevated. Now, the only thing left for me to do was actually pay for it. It was very tempting but I didn’t. I held myself back because I already have 2 vendor space rented and I also felt that this kind of decision in owning land needs more planning and thinking.

My main purpose for wanting a land of my own is to have a place where I can sell my stuff and to call home but if I did that then marketing and promoting my new location will be a little bit harder compared to a vendor space inside a mall where people already come and go. I know, I know, the Pod Shop isn’t a very popular place at least people are already coming in even if it’s very few. LOL!

Anyway, if I’m going to get a piece of land now or anytime in the near future then Palace Land and that place in Scaramanga will be my choice (until I find a much cheaper one of course, LOL)!

To learn more about Palace Land, you can visit the Land Developer’s website at RichardPalace.com! You can also search for Palace Land in-word and visit the lands for yourself. ;)

(By the way, this is not a paid post to promote Palace Lands. It’s based on my personal findings while shopping for land. He he he)

Additional Useful InformationMaking a Second Life is a lot like earning an online degree. There’s a time and resource requirement as well as the possibility to actually learn something.  Imagine the online college course of your dreams.  No more school books or supplies.  Just a broad-band connection and the willingness to build something great!
