Living A Second Life

Building A Home In Second Life

When I first tried Second Life, I didn’t quite get it and left it the same day but the second time I tried it I finally did maybe because I was better informed and got the chance to learn more about it. As I explore this virtual world I learned a lot about it and have met a lot of people who actually live their lives and spend most of their time in it, a Second Life.

One of the more interesting thing I learned about Second Life is the ability to create your own virtual home. The idea of a virtual home got me interested although I really don’t see the point of having one because you won’t really be living in it. Anyway, one of the most important ingredient in building a home in Second Life is land. Just like in the real world, without land we can’t build anything.

Now, there are two ways of getting land. The first one is buy it from Linden Labs which requires a premium account and the second one is rent it from other land owners or estate owners. Of course, being a non-premium account user, my only choice was to rent it and that I did. I rented a small piece of mainland from another resident named Richard Palace whose main business in Second Life is land development.

Now that I have land, the next thing I would need is a house that will fit my 512 sqm. plot of land. In the real world, building a house involves a lot of work. You will need to hire a construction company and spend hours looking at hundreds of House Plans but in Second Life, you can easily build a house in minutes using Second Life’s building and creation tools. If you don’t know how to build in Second Life then don’t just drop by a FREEBIE area and get yourself a  free house. If I’m not mistaken, you can get one at the Help Island.

Once you have your house placed on your land, the next thing to do is furnish it. Again, you can either build the furnitures yourself or get free furnitures are the many freebie areas or if you have the linden dollars, buy it from the many stores and shops located all over Second Life. After that is just a matter of meeting new people and inviting them over to your new home.

Building a home in Second Life is very easy. The hard part of having a home is keeping it. I’ve seen a lot of residents build their homes only to lose them later because keeping a home is expensive specially if you have no means of earning Linden Dollars.

That is why I am so thankful to mikeD Streeter, owner of many RPG sims, for letting me build a home in one of his sim for FREE! Thanks to him I was able to build my very own castle and since the land is set to my name, I am able to do almost anything I want on it.

By the way, my home in Second Life is open to everyone. Just search for Kabalyero Kidd’s Castle and drop by for a visit.

im so impressed with technology and the AI that is being developed. If getting a loan for developing a subsidized community is any easier in Second Life, then im in!
