While browsing SLExchange’s marketplace for FREE goodies, I stumbled on a very cool Open Source Book Making Script. I immediately purchased it and tested it in-world and it seems to be working fine. Now, this new discovery gave me an idea to create a Second Life magazine (as if we need another one, LOL) and the topic I chose was RPG Empires.

Excited about my new project, I quickly started on designing the pages of the magazine in Photoshop. I finished five pages and uploaded it into Second Life and then applied it to the Book Maker. The process was really simple and after that I sent a copy to mikeD Streeter, owner of RPG Empires, to get his input on the project.

Now, while I was waiting I realized that the textures on the magazine should be set to copy/trans for it to show when viewed or given to others. At first I thought it was okay since the textures on the magazine can easily be copied by taking a snapshot of the page but then why would I make it easier for them to copy the pages’ textures. If they want to view the pages then they should get the entire magazine.

So, I went back to SLExchange to search for an inexpensive but great alternative and there I found the THiNC Book and the THiNC Printing Press. I first bought the book to try it out and bought the printing press afterwards. Wow, using the THiNC system was really easy. I applied the magazine’s pages on the book and then made copies of it using the printing press. I then sent a copy of the printed magazine to mikeD Streeter.

I was so impress at THiNC that I wanted to use it more. This is where the idea to create another magazine came to me and this time it’s about fishing with 7Seas. Yeah, I’ve been addicted to this fishing game for almost two or weeks now and I’m really enjoying the many fishing contest that fishing area owners hold everyday. I guess winning is addicting but, don’t get me wrong, I don’t win all the time besides the fishes look really good.

So, while I was waiting for mikeD’s feedback on the RPG Empire Magazine, I went and started working on my fishing magazine which I named Fish and Bait. Basically, it will be about my experiences and adventures fishing with 7Seas. It will also have updates on 7Seas, fishing tips, feature fishing areas, contest (and people) and I guess other fishing related things that I can think of. It will be like a blogazine, a combination of a blog and a magazine, since it will contain more of my own personal thoughts, views and experiences in fishing but contributions from other 7Seas fishing fans are very much welcome.

Next, I’ll be working on RPG Empires. This will be a little bigger since it will have more pages than Fish and Bait but in the meantime I’ll be joining a lot of contest and I hope I win all of them. Why? To fund this projects of course. Uploading textures cost linden dollars you know! He he he!
