These past two weeks I’ve been spending most of my Second Life time creating custom fishing rods to be used with the 7Seas Fishing Game System. The custom fishing rods I make are just ordinary non-animated fishing rods and to make them work they must be used together with the 7Seas Phantom or Invisible Fishing Rods with Animations. Without it, my custom fishing rods will not do anything.
I’ve already made a custom fishing rod before but what really started me from making more custom fishing rods was my Candy Cane Rod. I made the Candy Cane Rod because I needed something for this Christmas Season and I was surprised that many fishing people like it. That encouraged me to make more custom fishing rods. Today I have a total of 23 Custom Fishing Rods and they are all catchable at my place, 3 Stars and a Sun.
What makes the 7Seas Fishing Game System great is that it allows content creators to make their own custom fishes or items and make them catchable using 7Seas system through a Custom Prize Server. Now there are thousands of amazing content creators in Second Life and some of them are into 7Seas creating custom fishes and items for their own 7Seas Fishing Area and some even make custom fishes and other items for other 7Seas Fishing Area owners.
I don’t consider myself an amazing content creator. What I make, I make it for myself and for those people who likes what I make. In fact, when I started making my custom fishing rods I never announced any of them in 7Seas Social Chat group because I do not want to compete with the other custom fish and item makers who constantly spam the group with their awesome creations. Having a few people know about my custom rods was enough for me but, unfortunately, I can never stop anyone, like my friend Margareth, from announcing them in the group.
When Margareth started announcing my custom rods in the group people got curious and started coming to my place. Some of these people liked my custom rods and started bringing in their friends to fish for the rods too. I would not say that my custom rods became popular, no. It got some attention but I would never say popular.
For some reason, one of the more popular personality in 7Seas finds my rod design funny and even makes fun of them in public (I consider group chat public). This person’s avatar name is Amara Twilight. She’s a wonderful content creator and she’s also very popular in 7Seas community. Almost everyone in 7Seas admires and respects her. That is why I don’t understand the reason why she makes fun of my rod design. I don’t know how many times she has made fun of my rod designs because I’m not always online to monitor the group chat but at least two instances were brought to my attention.
Yes, I’m being sensitive about it because I never did it to her. I’ve never made fun of her creations even if I find a few of her mermaids offensive and perverse because I simply “do not do unto others what I do not want others do unto me”. It’s as simple as that. I do not want people to make fun of my creations that is why I do not make fun of other people’s creations. I may criticize it but I will not make fun of it. Remember, making fun of someone’s work is very different from criticizing it.
Maybe if we were close then maybe I can laugh at it but we were not. I do not know her and I do not remember doing anything that could have upset her for her to mock and make fun of my work. Yeah, she was being funny by saying stuff like that in group chat and it made peole laugh but they laugh at my expense not her.
My last words to her in IM before muting her was, “honestly, I’m not competing against anyone, if you notice I don’t advertise them but I can’t stop margareth from announcing them no matter how I asked her not too so I am very sorry if my work is causing anyone problems”.
All I wanted to do was to make stuff that people might like and I found it by making custom fishing rods. I never intend to compete with anyone in 7Seas and being popular or popularity was never my goal. I will continue to make stuff and I plan to make more custom fishing rods. If other creators in 7Seas don’t like what I do then so be it. I’m not creating for them anyway. I’m creating for those people who likes what I create or make.

Hi there. I’m a beginner as far as rods are concerned. I’m making one right now for my own personal use but have run into a problem. How the (bleep) do you get the string to work. From what I can tell it’s a single flexi but I have no idea as far as what settings to set for flexibility. Could you help me please? You can contact me in world anytime or leave a messge for me there. Thanks in advance for your time on this.
Hi Deson, I just use the standard flexibility settings. Sometimes I set softness to 3 but most of the time I just keep the settings as is. Thanks by the way for visiting 3 Stars and a Sun.
