Recently, many Second Life merchants have started removing their items in XstreetSL.com in response to Second Life’s new Roadmap on Managing Freebies in XstreetSL. The roadmap includes adding listing fees on both freebies and regular items listed in XstreetSL.com. This is the Commerce Team’s way of reducing clutter in XstreetSL.com’s marketplace.
A monthly listing fee of 99L$ will be charged for Freebies and 10L$ will be charged for items priced 1L$ and above. For me, I see these charges as additional cost in operating a small business in Second Life. For example, I have, more or less, 300 active items listed for sale in XstreetSL.com. Multiplying that with 10L$ will get a result of 3,000L$ which is almost twice the amount of my monthly land rental fee of 1,600L$.
Many residents, specially those who operate big businesses that make 1,000,000L$ each month, will look at 3,000L$ and laugh at it. To them, 3,000L$ is nothing but, for me, 3,000L$ is already a lot of money and can pay off almost two months worth of land rent.
Currently, I have deactivated almost all of my listed items in XstreetSL.com and I am using the few that I left active to promote and direct potential buyers to my SHOP in-world where they can browse and SEE more of my items for sale.
I have also listed my items in metaLIFE, months before, where I made a total of 10,005L$ for the month of October. I guess I should say thanks to metaLIFE‘s affiliate vending system because most of my sales came from vendors owned by affiliates. metaLIFE’s low prim in-world vendors and affiliate vending system make it a very attractive alternative to XstreetSL.com. Also, the need for an ATM to withdraw or deposit L$ to and from your account is eliminated with metaLIFE.
Other alternatives to XstreetSL.com where you can list your items for sale are:
- apez.biz
- slapt.me
- Metaverse Exchange
- Vitty.jp
