metaLIFE just recently made a very bold decision about the commission they take from merchants on items listed and sold in their online marketplace. As posted in their blog, metaLIFE will now stop taking commissions from web sales or from sales made in their online marketplace. This simply means that merchants will now get 100% of their money if an item they are selling or has listed for sale gets sold in the marketplace.
While XstreetSL.com is adding listing fees to get an item listed, metaLIFE is removing them instead. While XstreetSL.com is out to get more money from their merchants, metaLIFE is literally reducing and giving away their share to their merchants.
Of course, they’re not entirely giving everything away to their merchants. They still need to make some money to cover their operating expenses. metaLIFE will still take 10% commissions on sales made from metaVENDORs all over the grid. Yet, if you sell your own items using metaVENDORs you owned then no commissions will be taken which is why I am using them in my shop in-world.
Currently, I have 350 active items and 122 inactive items listed for sale in metaLIFE’s marketplace and last month I made a total of L$10,005 in sales. For a small merchant like myself, every bit of L$ saved is a big help and with metaLIFE not taking any commissions from my web and metaVENDOR sales I am saving a lot of extra L$ which will be used to pay for other expenses like land rent, upload cost and others.
