Protector Martian! Junk? SPAM? Seriously!

Today, after advertising my latest 7Seas Custom Fishing Rod Auctions at 7Seas Social Chat Group a member named Protector Martian commented that he is tired of seeing my junk.

Is he calling my stuff JUNK or is he calling my advertisement JUNK. Wow! Of course, my immediate reaction was to thank him for that. It’s not everyday that I get to see people calling my stuff JUNK. He responded with:

WOW! He considered my advertisement as SPAM? My last advertisement, after the one he called JUNK, was almost 2 hours ago. As far as I know, 7Seas allows advertisements in their group as long as it is related with 7Seas and I strongly believe that my 7Seas Custom Fishing Rods are very much related with 7Seas.

I personally don’t know who this Protector Martian is and I don’t remember doing anything to him that would make him hate on me because, personally, I see his comment as simply hating on me.

My creations are not JUNK because people will not spend hours fishing for them if they are JUNK. My advertisements are not SPAM because 1. advertising items related to 7Seas like custom fishing rods are allowed and 2. they are moderately spaced and it’s not like that I’ve been advertising that long. Hell, other custom creators are advertising more than I do.

Guess what, after my last advertisement, a fishing area owner started advertising his contest and he was advertising every few minutes and, surprisingly, I didn’t see him complaining about the SPAM. WOW! Talk about double standards! It just shows that he just don’t like seeing my items advertised because to him they’re just JUNK!

Anyway, Protector Martian won’t stop me from advertising in 7Seas Social Chat Group because 1. it’s not his group, 2. I’m not violating any rules, and 3. I’m not advertising to him. In fact, I am advertising to the other 2000+ members of the group who might be interested with what I am offering.

Weird, I seem to be getting a lot of haters when I don’t remember doing anything worthy of hate. Is it because I’m Filipino? O_o

Update: My friend kula just told me this today. He said that Protector Martian also bashed him when he was advertising the MM Boards that contains 7Seas Custom Fishing Rods at my 7Seas Fishing Area and Shop. kula said that he was told to only advertise fishing contest. WOW! This Protector Martian probably thinks he owns the Group or something.

The group charter clearly states, “Group IMs are allowed, both general chat and promotion of fishing areas, contests, items.” What me and my friend did was to promote 7Seas related items.

The group charter also states, “DO NOT argue or bash here”. Clearly, he was bashing us for promoting my 7Seas Custom Items.

My friend kula also told me that this Protector Martian claims that I stole the idea for the Beer Fishing Rod. Seriously, to whom did I steal it? If I stole that then I guess I also stole the idea for the Christmas, Valentines, 4th of July, St. Patrick’s Day, etc. Fishing Rods. Come on!

Sorry for ranting here about Protector Martian but this is the only place where I can fully express my thoughts, views and feelings regarding my experiences in Second Life. Besides, I wouldn’t just let anyone bash me, my friends and creations without saying anything about it.

Update: Sheesh! I get hated on for promoting my 7Seas Custom Fishing Rods yet other people promoting NON 7Seas stuff are okay?

Castaway Island, New Home of KK 2010 Golden Fishing Rod of Time

Yesterday, deesue Parx became the new exclusive owner of *KK* 2010 Golden Fishing Rod of Time after winning the auction by becoming the highest bidder. This particular custom fishing rod will never be sold or auctioned again by the creator. As the new exclusive owner of this custom fishing rod, deesue Parx can give it away as a prize or gift and she can even sell copies of it to anyone BUT she must first set its permission to either copy only or transfer only (not both) before handing it out to others. Forgetting to do so will enable anyone who gets it to make unlimited transferable copies of the item.

She also told me yesterday, after getting the item, that she plans to use it as an exclusive custom prize that can only be caught in her fishing area and, today, I went to visit her fishing area.

Her fishing area is located in the Sant Sebastian region in Second Life and it is a Private (Homestead) Estate/Island. deesue Parx’s 7Seas Fishing Area is called Castaway Island. Although, I’m not sure if that is the name of the entire island or just the fishing area.

The slurl that I got dropped me a little to the east of her fishing area and, because of that, I had to walk a few meters to the west to get there. At her fishing area, I took a couple of snapshots of myself and uploaded them to Snapzilla where everyone can take a look at her nice 7Seas Fishing Area setup. (see photos below)

New Device/System to Ban Copybot Viewers Released

Slapt.me, an alternative online marketplace for Second Life, posted on their Twitter account about a new system or device that can detect and ban those who use copybot viewers like Neillife and others. The device is called [GEMINI Cybernetics] Client Detection System / CDS Ban Relay 1.9 and it claims that it can detect and ban anyone who uses a copybot viewer.

This new device or system is NOT FREE and uses a licensing fee structure. For example, the license fee to use the system for a month would cost you 700L$. Think of it like a subscription. It’s like paying a monthly subscription fee to use the system. Does it work? Unfortunately, I have no idea but if you are interested in such a device or system then you can learn more about it on slapt.me and on xstreetsl.com.

Will I buy this new device or system? Unfortunately, NO!

According to a forum post by Couldbe Yue in slapt.me:

“This item steals the data of anyone who enters the parcel where it is running – including pc data – it is done without the knowledge or consent of the person -guilty or innocent. According to Skills anyway.

If you read the so called “privacy” policy, skills will then do whatever she wants with it – including selling it on to marketers.”

If this is true then I don’t think risking my personal data and information is worth the protection it claims to give. Although, the creator claims in the FAQ of the device that it only records the avatar key of those detected and caught using illegal viewers, trusting someone who was allegedly banned for copybotting (true or not) is kinda difficult for me to do specially when the device is supposed to protect you from copybotters. LOL! Ironic isn’t it.

For now, I’m giving this device/system the benefit of the doubt but if you wish to personally try it out then do so. No one is stopping anyone from buying and trying out this system. Besides, it’s your money not mine. LOL! Just remember that Second Life now has a firm policy on Third Party Viewers which explicitly calls out copybot viewers.

By the way, the creator of CDS (Client Detection System) is also a member of the Emerald Team. I don’t know if that adds anything to CDS trust level but, if I remember correctly, the creator of CryoLife was also a member of the Emerald Team. I just don’t know if he is still with them though.

5 Minutes with SL Viewer 2 Beta

Linden Lab finally released the Beta version of Second Life’s latest viewer which is simply called Second Life Viewer 2 Beta. I have been seeing the login notice about it but only had the time to download it today. The setup or install file isn’t very big. It’s around 23 MB which is almost the same size as the normal viewer, snowglobe and the many alternative viewers. Downloaded it and installed it afterwards.

Running the new viewer the first time, I must say that I am very much impress at the way it looks. It’s more professional looking and gone are the beveled buttons. Unfortunately, I didn’t run it very long. The new interface looks so foreign to me that I was literally feeling my way around it. Although, I was able to setup my graphics settings and other preferences during that brief 5 minutes of running it.

I really wanted to try out those new features mentioned in the release notes but figuring out this and that kinda turned me off for now. I kinda like OpenLife’s New Viewer better because I was able to easily adapt to its interface. As much as I don’t like the beveled buttons below the screen, I kinda missed seeing them there. LOL!

In time, I will be able to adapt to the new interface of Second Life Viewer 2 specially when alternative viewers like Emerald adapts its interface to their own viewer.

2010 Winter Olympics Fishing Rod

For those fishing at 3 Stars and a Sun, my virtual place in Second Life, I just want to let you know that I have added a new Custom Fishing Rod in the Custom Prize Givers. The new custom fishing rod is an Olympic Themed custom fishing rod named 2010 Winter Olympics Fishing Rod.

This particular custom fishing rod is not a SUR (SuperUltraRare) like most of my custom fishing rods. This fishing rod is a craftable custom fishing rod which means you will have to catch the parts (salvages and blueprint) needed to build or craft it. Don’t worry, the parts needed to build or craft it are either Common, Uncommon and Rare.

To help you in your crafting of this custom fishing rod, listed below are the names of the parts (salvages and blueprints) needed to build the 2010 Winter Olympics Fishing Rod.

The design of the 2010 Winter Olympics Fishing Rod features the Olympic Rings, Olympic Colors and the 2010 Winter Olympics Logo. It also has an icy base to compliment the theme of the fishing rod.

I have been a member of Earn2Life for almost 3 years and I can’t remember when or if I have ever taken a look at my apprentices earnings until now. As expected, they too are earning their fair share of Linden Dollars completing tasks and doing in-world offers.

SL Residents Uniting In Avatars United

This past week, many Second Life residents suddenly started creating accounts in Avatars United which is a Social Networking Website for Avatars. After the announcement of Linden Lab’s acquisition of Avatars United, Second Life residents, like Lemmings, started joining in.

I first joined Avatars United in 2008 but never really did anything in it except add a few Avatars from various MMORPGs and posted a couple of blog entries. In fact, if it wasn’t for Linden Lab’s acquisition and announcement then I would have totally forgotten that a Social Networking Website named Avatars United exist specially now that I’ve rediscovered Facebook.

As a Social Networking Website, Avatars United lacks many features found in other more popular Social Networking Websites like Facebook and Friendster but one feature that I like that is not in Facebook or Friendster is the ability to create Avatar Profile pages for all your avatars in Second Life or characters in other worlds. This feature eliminates the need to register multiple accounts specially for those who have many avatars. In Avatars United, you can create and manage all your avatars profile with just one account.

As of this posting, there are 6,234 Second Life Avatars registered in Avatars United (see picture below) and if you are running a business in Second Life then those numbers could mean potential customers, clients or buyers for your business. By the way, those numbers are still going up every hour and with Facebook deleting hundreds of Second Life avatar accounts everyday, I’m sure that more and more Second Life residents will be joining Avatars United.

Right now, I’m just trying to Unite with as many Second Life Avatars that I can in Avatars United. Before, I was only planning on uniting with residents I know but I changed my mind after thinking about the opportunities I would gain in connecting with everyone. It’s the same with Twitter, the more followers you have, the more people you can market your ideas, thoughts, services and products to.

Don’t think of Avatars United as just another Social Networking Website to waste your time in playing games, etc. Think of it as another gold mine of opportunities just waiting to be exploited, errr…, used for your own benefit.
