WHAT IS THE FIRST OPINIONS PANEL?

WILL THIS BE IN SL?

First at a secure, custom RL platform (website). In time, we will bring them into SL to create state-of-the-art virtual focus groups, more fun!

WHO IS THE SOCIAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION (SRF)?

• SRF created the First Opinions Panel.
• SRF was incorporated in 2003 to develop education technology solutions.
• We are a non profit 501(c)3 organization

WHO ELSE IS INVOLVED?

• A preeminent online consumer research service
• Has over TWO MILLION PEOPLE on a RL panel
• They are demographically indexed by gender, age, income, etc.
• Almost all Fortune 500 companies use them

IS THIS LIKE OTHER SURVEY COMPANIES IN SL?

• No! This is different in every way.
• NO SELLING: You will NEVER be solicited to buy products.
• PRIVACY: We will NOT even ask your RL NAME, ADDRESS OR PHONE NUMBER.
• MORE PRIVACY: Your SL name will NEVER be sold, rented or disclosed to third-party vendors
• This is STRICTLY for top-level market research.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

• FIRST OPINIONS� will be a panel of thousands of SL residents.
• When you register, you will provide standard info about your self and interests
• For example, gender, how long in SL, age, etc.
• This way, you are only invited into focus groups that are relevant to YOU

HOW WILL THIS INFORMATION BE USED?

• Strictly for creating the specialized focus groups that meet the target audience of each individual research project.

WILL I BE PAID FOR MY TIME?

• Yes! But the key benefit is having a voice in major product development, feedback on TV shows and more.
• Each company will have its own payment amount; you will see it in the announcement
• It could be L$100 to L$1000 or more
• You will be paid when our Foundation is paid by the client.
• Then, you wll receive an email to come to our office and click on a “Pay Kiosk” which will match your avie name to an authorized database of payees.

HOW WILL I BE CONTACTED?

• IN SL: occasionally by the First Opinions Panel for updates & announcements
• IN RL: via email to invite you into specific focus groups
• Therefore, during Registration please provide a primary email address

WHEN WILL THIS BEGIN?

• We already have!
• We just completed a survey for a major media company planning original SL content for their TV shows!
• Don’t feel bad, plenty more to come.

HOW OFTEN WILL I BE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE?

• When you are a match for what the marketer is looking for
• You are not required to serve on a specific research panel, even if invited.
• Figure once or twice a month once we get momentum going.

CAN I VOLUNTEER FOR A PROJECT?

• Sorry. It is up the marketing company to choose based on which attributes they need

WILL ANYONE TRY TO CONTACT ME?

• NO SPAM
• Only via email to invite you into a panel that matches your self-description.
• Only via group IM for occasional group announcements

WHAT IF I UNEXPECTEDLY CAN�T MAKE IT TO A PROJECT I AGREED TO?

• No problem. There is no penalty.

CAN I OPT-OUT OF THIS PROGRAM AT ANY TIME?

• Of course.

WHAT IF SOME RESIDENTS APPLY BUT DO NOT TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY?

• Such people will be dropped from the panel immediately.
• The decision on this is strictly up to the companies doing the research

CAN I INVITE FRIENDS TO JOIN?

• Of course! Please send them a copy of this note card.

CAN I SHARE THIS WITH GROUPS I BELONG TO?

• We will be happy to provide speakers for your group as well.

Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to us.

We will provide our membership database to market research companies strictly to match you to the targeted attributes of research projects on behalf of their corporate clients.

The analysis of your responses will be presented soley in AGGREGATE, e.g. “x% of our respondents to question #1 said ‘Yes’.

• Under no circumstances will your INDIVIDUAL responses or attributes be disclosed SEPARATELY from the aggregate results.”
• Under no circumstances will they disclose your individual email address, personal profile or responses to other companies, including clients, or use them for solicitations of products or services other than participation in the First Opinions Panel.

DURING REGISTRATION YOU WILL BE ASKED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU READ THIS AND AGREE TO IT

Our sign up HUD will ask general demographic information about you such as age, income, zip code, television viewing habits, one email address, etc. It will not ask personal information such as your RL name, address or phone number.

This First Opinions Panel database of members will be made available to reputable online consumer research services used by Fortune 500 and other major companies.

The purpose of the consumer research company is to decide which First Opinions Panel members match the target attributes for each specific research project of their corporate clients.

This research company has the right to contact you via email only to invite you into focus groups or surveys when they deem that the target attributes of that project match the self-descriptions you gave in your sign up.

You will also be required to join the First Opinions Panel group via the Group tab in SL. This is so the First Opinions Panel itself may contact you via Group Instant Message within Second Life.

To participate in the First Opinions Panel, you must

1. Be at least 18 years of age.
2. Agree to provide accurate responses to the questions we ask about you.
3. Agree not to use more than one avatar when responding to our questions.
4. Understand and agree that applying to the First Opinions Panel does not guarantee that you will be asked to participate in the panel or any specific projects.

Additionally, you agree to the following:

1. EMAIL ADDRESS: To provide an email address to receive invitations to focus groups, research projects and information related to the First Opinions Panel.
2. BEHAVIOR: Disruptive behavior is not permitted. We reserve the right to limit the access of, or expel, any participant who engages in conduct that we deem disruptive.
3. The selection of which panel participants are invited to join a given research project is based on how you match their target demographics and is at the sole discretion of the sponsoring corporation and/or their consumer market research company.
4. COMPENSATION: It is understood that your primary purpose in applying to the First Opinions Panel is an opportunity to provide quality feedback to marketing officials on topics related to your interests and background which are provided by you during the panel registration process. Upon your successful completion of each research project to which you are invited, you may be eligible for a token payment of one hundred Linden dollars (L$100). All payments to you are the sole responsibility of the research company and not of the Social Research Foundation or First Opinions Panel.
5. These terms and conditions may be amended at any time without prior notice to you. You can review the current terms and conditions at http://www.socialresearchfoundation.org.
