The Roman Empire Sim

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Recently, I received a message from mikeD Streeter informing me about the changes that they did in The Roman Empire sim.  The Roman Empire is the flagship sim of [RPG Empire]. As far as I know, the success of The Roman Empire gave birth to other empires which later on became the RPG Empire continent in Second Life.

The first change I noticed is at the landing area. More shops were added and the floor texture was changed as well. I also noticed that the pillars that supports most, if not all, of the shops are now colored red and most of the textures that make up the shops were changed too. (more…)

100,000L$ Tournament Day 1 Photos

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

The first day of the 100,000L$ Bitter Thorns was held at The Spartan Empire sim last September 13, 2008 and I was there to witness a few of the fights and to take some snapshots, of course. Registration for that day’s tournament started at 8:00AM SLT (Second Life Time) and ended at exactly 11:00AM SLT. Fighters and warriors from other sims, even outside of [RPG Empire], came to participate. Even my friend Boying Ansar and fellow fisherman Magos Destiny registered to fight.

I didn’t participate in the tournament but I did watch a few matches. The fights were held in The Spartan Empire’s arena but the fighters were asked to stay in The Roman Empire’s coliseum. They were to be summoned to The Spartan Empire when it was their time to fight. This strategy greatly reduced the amount of lag which usually accompanies huge events like this one! (more…)

Weapons With 10 Meter Ranges

Christmas Tournament

Today, I logged Kabalyero Kidd in to participate in The Roman Empire’s Christmas Tournament. Unfortunately, only four gladiators entered the Tournament and they were:

  • Blackwell Huet
  • Sadie Flanagan
  • Scipio Tuqiri
  • and Kabalyero Kidd (my avatar)

I had the honor of fighting Sir Scipio in the first round and I was lucky enough to emerged the victor of that match. The second and third round wasn’t very fruitful because I have to fight two of Rome’s great gladiators; Sir Blackwell and Lady Sadie. I was defeated in a matter of minutes (or was it just seconds) by both of them.

The final match was between Lady Sadie and Sir Blackwell. It was an intense battle. Lady Sadie put up a great fight but Sir Blackwell emerged the victor. His prize as Champion of the Christmas Tournament was a Gladius.

Sir Enrich immediately called all the gladiators and gave an order to attack Sir Blackwell but it was fruitless. Sir Blackwell defeated us all.

10 Meters? Could be even more!

After the tournament, I spent some time inside the Coliseum waiting for someone to spar with. I love to spar and practice because I want to be a great champion like Sir Blackwell too. LOL! After a while, a warrior came and asked to spar with me. The warrior’s name was Gabe Liotta. His weapon of choice was a spear but it was no ordinary spear for it has a great range and I used my sparring weapon, a Kendo Stick. Our next fight was even weirder because I was like 10 meters away from him (even more I think) and still he was landing massive strikes on me. I ask him to hold because it was really weird but he continued his attacks. He then ran away after the fight.

Later, Sir Enrich explained that my opponent, Gabe Liotta, was using a modified spear and that 10 meter ranges are a common modification. Arrgghhh! No wonder he did not like to be addressed as Sir, he wasn’t worthy of the title. LOL! Not even my legally enhanced Hellfire sword would be a match to a spear with a range of 10 meters (or even more). I have learned from that experience that such weapons exist and not all warriors fight with HONOR. I have added Gabe Liotta to my list of dishonorable warriors in Second Life (the first one) and will never spar with him again even in a level playing field.

Gladiator Fights (Video)

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

As promised, I made a simple video of the Gladiator Fights that I’ve witnessed at The Roman Empire. The video is more than 4 minutes long and it contains video clips of some of the fights and some of the Gladiators. It’s also been compressed to save disk space and for ease of upload to YouTube. Gladiator Fights At The Roman Empire

Friday, December 21st, 2007

Yes! The mighty Roman Empire still exist! Well, not in real life but in Second Life. I first chanced upon The Roman Empire while looking for new camping locations. When I was there, the owner of the sim mikeD Streeter invited me to join The Roman Empire group which I did. From then on, I regularly receive updates and group notices from the group about events and Gladiator Fights in the Coliseum. I’ve always wanted to come and watch the fights but I just can’t find the time but today was different.

I received a noticed for a 6:00pm Gladiator Fight at the Coliseum and looking at my clock it was almost 6:00pm. Since, I wasn’t doing anything important, I just logged in to check my rental boxes, I opened the notecard and teleported to The Roman Empire.

From the landing point, I walked a few more steps to the coliseum. Getting there is easy, just follow the signs or you can use your map and place a red beacon over the huge round thing on the map. That round thing is the Coliseum. Once the beacon is set then just walk to it.

At the Coliseum, I selected a spot and sat there. The fights were just about to begin when I got there and as the Gladiators prepare for battle, I took some snapshots. I wasn’t able to get all their names, in fact, I can’t remember any of their names. LOL! But I do remember how they look and some of them wore amazing Roman/Gladiator/Warrior costumes. My favorites were the Black Armored Roman Gladiator, the one with the Roman General Tag, the Female Gladiator in Lingerie and the Big Bad Demon Gladiator.

The first part of the fight was a Tournament Style One on One matches where fighters must win to advance until only two are left to fight in the Final Round. If I am not mistaken (correct me if I’m wrong), Blackwell Huet won this part of the fights. The next part was a Last Man Standing Match where all the participants will fight amongst themselves until only one is left standing. This part was funny because you’ll see gladiators running for their lives like little girls (no offense meant, LOL).

Of course, the fights won’t be complete without the attendance of the mighty Emperor of Rome, mikeD Streeter, and her Venus of Rome, PhillipaKate Beresford. They watched the fights with high interest and the Gladiators honor them before each match!

The Emperor, mikeD Streeter, also owns the Transylvania Village, Animate Me! and Scripts brands and products.

With the help of the Venus of Rome, I was able to meet the winner of the fights, Blackwell Huet. I believe he was the Black Armored Roman Gladiator which was really scary looking but without his armor and helmet he doesn’t look scary at all. It was nice talking with him.

It was time well spent. The fights were interesting and it further showed that Second Life can be anything you want it to be. That it is not all about virtual sex and online shopping for virtual items. For those who still doesn’t quite get what Second Life is, Second Life is a platform where your imagination can flourish and where your dreams can, will and might come true.

Notes:

  • I’ve taken some video clips of the fight so watch out for it and;
  • The Venus of Rome is taking me in a tour around The Roman Empire so watch out for that too.
