New Device/System to Ban Copybot Viewers Released

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Slapt.me, an alternative online marketplace for Second Life, posted on their Twitter account about a new system or device that can detect and ban those who use copybot viewers like Neillife and others. The device is called [GEMINI Cybernetics] Client Detection System / CDS Ban Relay 1.9 and it claims that it can detect and ban anyone who uses a copybot viewer.

[GEMINI Cybernetics] Client Detection System / CDS Ban Relay 1.9 / 1 month license

This new device or system is NOT FREE and uses a licensing fee structure. For example, the license fee to use the system for a month would cost you 700L$. Think of it like a subscription. It’s like paying a monthly subscription fee to use the system. Does it work? Unfortunately, I have no idea but if you are interested in such a device or system then you can learn more about it on slapt.me and on xstreetsl.com. (more…)

Responsible CryoLife Users Exist?!

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Did you know? Responsible CryoLife users exist in the virtual world of Second Life. Well, at least that is how I understand what one commenter said in defense of his use of CryoLife. Basing from his comment, responsible CryoLife users like this person use CryoLife as a defense against griefing or griefers and for circumventing Second Life’s permission system by removing or getting rid off the “no copy” status from items thus making them copiable.

For those of us who have legit uses for it (especially recoloring your avatar) it’s a life saver. Or to get rid of no copy status from clothing items so you’re not forced to risk ruining them.

Awesome! Circumventing Second Life permission system is, undeniably, a very responsible use of CryoLife. Wait! Items in Second Life can only be either No Copy/Transfer or Copy/No Transfer not both, right? So, if you get rid of the No Copy status then you are making the item Copy which will make it Copy/Transfer, right? Isn’t that almost like Semi-Full Perms already and why stop there? Why not get rid of the No Mod status too and make it Full Perms? Oh, I forgot, this person is a  responsible CryoLife user and because he is responsible a status of Copy/Transfer on an originally No Copy item is good enough for him/her. Isn’t it AWESOME? Making No Copy items Copy! WOOOHOOO! A lot of people will surely like that kind of responsible use of CryoLife. (more…)

Step Up? Content Creators Against Content Theft

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

The tools for stealing content in Second Life become more and more advance each passing day. It started with text only clients which are really not that easy to use to the current ones which are full SL viewers that makes stealing content as easy as clicking a button. Before, all you can steal are baked textures and prim objects but now almost anything can be stolen (textures, sounds, scripts and even animations).

I still remember when many forum posters in the now closed XstreetSL.com forum deny the existence of CopyBot. Going as far as attacking those who became victims of it and were starting threads about it. They kept saying that it doesn’t exist. Well, for something that doesn’t exist it sure is getting a lot of attention lately. (more…)

Are You Sure You’re Seing Emerald?

Monday, September 7th, 2009

A couple of days ago, I learned that a copybot viewer was using Greenlife Emerald’s code as its base and knowing that it’s open source and easily downloadable anyone with the right tools and skills can download it, tweak it and compile it as their own viewer. I am not a coder so I wouldn’t know anything about tweaking and compiling source codes but it brought up a question that can only be answered by Greenlife Emerald. My question was, “will viewers compiled based on Greenlife Emerald’s code show as Emerald in their built-in radar?” and, unfortunately, the answer was yes.

Is it really Emerald or a viewer disguised as Emerald?

[2009/09/03 21:44]  Source: (Saved Fri Sep 04 12:41:02 2009) it will unless they change that

I also learned that ThugLife, another copybot viewer, also shows as Emerald in Greenlife Emerald’s built-in radar. (more…)

Why Do I Even Bother? *sigh*

Monday, August 10th, 2009

When I discovered the CryoBan Script by Leah Mayo at AnnOtoole’s Forum, That Other Life. I immediately replaced the simple Cryo Detection Script that I got from Second Life Herald with it. Being a content creator myself, I am also very much concern about protecting my creations and I am very much sure that other creators feel the same way as well. With this in mind, I immediately sent the script through a group notice to my groups, 3 Stars and a Sun and www.KABALYERO.com, and to 7Seas Builders Group. My only mistake was, I sent the script NO MOD and not FULL PERMS.

Today, I discovered an update to the CryoBan Script by Leah Mayo and, again, thought of sharing it to all my groups and to 7Seas Builders Group but when I opened the Notices tab there was another notice about the CryoBan Script. The notice was sent by Grey Nacht in response to my notice and it reads: (more…)
