Living A Second Life

My New Skin

Before, I thought that I would never buy a new skin but I was wrong. Today, I found myself shopping for a new skin and using Second Life’s new search tool I went from one store to another. My budget for a new skin was only 2,000L$ and I told myself that I would not spend anything more than that. I found some shops that sell skins for only 500L$ and another for 700L$. I even saw some that were selling at 250L$ to 350L$ but I didn’t buy from them because many of them looked copied.

While I was searching for more skin shops, Isadora Fiddlesticks of HodgePodge Magazine ecstatically blurted out in the Filipino group chat how beautiful the skins in Minnu were. I immediately searched for Minnu, found it and teleported there. I found her looking at some female skins and she even tried one. I then left her and went to the Male section of the shop. There weren’t too many selections but at first glance I know that these were the skins I was looking for.

I selected the shaved tan skin style, paid the vendor, got the skin and wore it afterwards.

The skin cost 1,500L$ and I think it’s worth every linden dollars because the skin looked really good on my avatar.

Now my avatar has some material value. The elites of Second Life will now stop treating my avatar like a newbie and treat it more seriously. Who knows they might even accept me into their social circles! LOL! :D

Paid My New Hosting with Linden Dollars

Well, not exactly with Linden Dollars but from the $USD I got by converting the Linden Dollars I earned through the many linden dollar earning opportunities available in Second Life.I moved all my sites, including Kabalyero, from my old host, Site5, to Bluehost and I paid it with the money I earned from Second Life.

I wasn’t really planning on moving to a new host. The decision came after learning that Site5 will no longer accept or is no longer accepting specialized cards like Electron and Maestro which was bad news for me since my card is an Electron card. My hosting will expire this December and that’s just a few days (more or less 2 weeks) from now. So I converted some Linden Dollars to $USD, withdrew it through PayPal and paid Bluehost for my new web hosting.

Why Bluehost? Well, I had 3 hosting providers in mind; Lunarpages, Bluehost and Hostgator. I like Hostgator the best and it’s highly recommended by a friend who was in the web hosting business but the price was a little over my budget so the choice was narrowed down to two. Lunarpages and Bluehost were, as far as my selection goes, equal but I decided to go with Bluehost because none of the people I know host their websites with Lunarpages whereas I know 2 people who host their websites with Bluehost and they are very satisfied with it so far. That is how I came with the decision.

If you were here before then you might have noticed the emergency maintenance message and the brief downtime of the site. That’s because I was downloading the site and doing some DNS changes during those time. The only problem I encountered were with the database but that was easily resolved but overall the transfer was smooth. Anyway, if you do find any problem just give me a quick buzz so that I can work on it ASAP.

There are so many ways to earn linden dollars in second life and you can find some of it here and if I can pay my web hosting with the money I earned from Second Life then so can you. If you get lucky, you can even keep some of it for yourself. ;)

P.S. The hosting came with a new Domain Name so I took advantage and registered WEBATBP.COM! What I’ll do with it? I’m not quite sure yet but I will think of something.

Easy Ways to Earn L$ for your Second Life

Let’s face it Linden Dollars (L$) is very important to all residents of Second Life. L$ is the life blood of your Second Life. Without L$, your Second Life experience wouldn’t be as enjoyable as you expect or want it to be. When you start your new life in Second Life you don’t get any L$. You start with nothing but this case only applies to those who registered with a Basic Account. Those who registered with a Premium Account will get a sign-up bonus of 1,000L$, a weekly stipend of 300L$ and the ability to buy and own Land but still those are not enough. As you go along your life in Second Life, you’ll soon find out that the 300L$ weekly stipend is not enough and then you’ll realize that you need other ways to get or even earn L$ to continue enjoying your newly found lifestyle in Second Life.

Well, the fastest way to get L$ into your account is to purchase them from Linden Labs ((Linden Labs, developer of Second Life)) but what if you don’t want to pay extra since you are already a Premium Member or what if you are a Basic Member with no means of purchasing from Linden Labs? Don’t worry, it’s not the end.

Easy Ways to Earn L$ for your Second Life

Get a Job

One of the best way to earn L$ is by getting a job. There are thousands of businesses in Second Life. Examples are banks, clubs, whore houses, stock exchanges, malls, and shops but these are just some of it. These businesses needs manpower to function and business owners are always looking to hire people with the necessary skills to fill up various positions like dancers, greeters, promoters, managers, security guards, escorts, writers, graphic artists, programmers, builders, scripters, texturers and many, many more. If you’ve the skills then find the matching job and apply for it. Remember, not all jobs pay with tips. There are many jobs that pays from 500L$ to 10,000L$ per hour but you have to find them and to help you find these jobs visit Second Life Jobs.

Second Life Jobs lists job openings from all over Second Life. It is updated daily and you don’t have to register to view available jobs.

Camp

There are many residents in Second Life who doesn’t want to get a job because of various reasons. Maybe they don’t like working for someone, maybe they don’t have the time for it or maybe they are just plain lazy but whatever their reasons may be they still can earn L$ and that is by camping.

There are different forms of camping but the general idea is that you get paid for staying on someone’s land thus increasing his land’s traffic numbers. Camping rates had dropped considerably after the gambling ban which forced thousands of casinos in Second Life out of business but there are still many good camping spots out there like the ones found here and here.

Join a Contest

Contests are great and it is fun. Trivia, Best in Theme, Landscaping, Logo Making and Writing are just a few of them. My favorite contest is the Best in Theme and you can get an idea of it here.

Join Research Panels or Groups

Research Panels or Groups conducts research studies through surveys and the results of these studies are used by businesses both in Second Life and in Real Life. Earning potential from these groups ranges from 250L$ to 10,000L$ per completed survey and sometimes bonuses are awarded depending on the survey.

Complete Offers from Earn2Life

At Earn2Life you earn money by completing free offers. These offers will be to sign up with various companies online. You are only to sign up with those that you are really interested in. You will get paid L$20 – L$100 depending on which country you are from and your membership level for every offer you take.

With Earn2Life, you can earn up to 2,000L$ per day just by completing offers and the earning potential grows as your membership level increase. Visit Earn2Life to learn more.

Complete Surveys

Hippie Pay, MyLindens and the Money Egg are the most popular form of paid surveys in-world. You don’t have to sign-up to take a survey. All you have to do is find one of their ATMs, touch it to get the survey link, complete the survey and get paid after.

The problem with these paid survey service is that not everyone can do them. They cater mostly to US Second Life residents and to a few non-US Second Life residents.

Explore The Grid with Hoppy Pay

This is rather a different way to earn L$. It is the reverse of camping. Instead of staying in one place, with Hoppy Pay, you get paid by hopping (teleporting or moving) from place to place. Learn more about Hoppy Pay.

Join Slam-X and get paid to post

Getting paid with L$ to post is something that is new to Second Life and Slam-X offers that to it’s members but Slam-X is not all about getting paid to post. Getting paid to post is just a small part of what Slam-X is really about. Visit Slam-X to learn more.

Become a Creator

The most important thing that attracted me to Second Life is the ability to create and build things in-world. I find it fascinating and intriguing that is why during my first weeks I did nothing but learn how to build objects in Second Life. In fact, I started 3 Stars and a Sun as a personal Sand Box.

Good creators like builders, scripters, fashion designers, landscapers, texture and skin makers can always put up a shop to sell their creations or they can offer their skills to other businesses that needs them.

Other Ways to Earn L$

There are other ways of earning L$ in Second Life like setting up a business but that’s too complicated and takes a lot of time. Another way and also an easy way to earn L$ is to become an Escort but I wouldn’t suggest that path unless of course you really want to. A much more easy way to earn L$ is to beg for it but again I also wouldn’t suggest it. What I can suggest is, if you have a blog or a website, that you blog about it. You’ll earn linden dollars from referral links like for example First Opinions Panel pays 100L$ for every new member you refer. Another example is Slam-X which pays 50L$ per referral.

Earning or getting Linden Dollars to finance your Second Life is not that hard and with the ways mentioned above, I hope you earn enough linden dollars to fully enjoy your Second Life.

Earn L$ to see the Grid

Earn some L$ to see the Grid through Hoppy Pay. I learned about Hoppy Pay at Slam-X’s forum. It was funny at first because I thought that my fellow Slam-X’ers were referring to Hippie Pay and just misspelled it but that wasn’t the case. If you want to learn more about Hoppy Pay and how you can earn Linden Dollars from it then read on. The information below was taken from Hoppy Pay’s notecard and it will explain what Hoppy Pay is and how you’ll earn L$ from it.

Welcome to the Hoppy Pay HUD

Sick of waiting ages on a campchair which pay out lower then you’re energy bills is?
Wanna see the Grid? And even get payed for it?

Then Hoppy Pay is right for you!

Hoppy Pay is the answer. It selects a destination on the Grid for you to visit – sometimes it maybe a good one sometimes well there also boring places on the Grid. But since we not know you’re taste opinions about Sims may be different.

To get start you push the button “Let’s GO”. It will select a Sim on the Grid for you and open the Map. Push Teleport to get there.

When you arrive do not forget to push the “Yes, arrived” button and you get some extra L$ just for traveling. Found a interesting Sim and wanna do some sightseeing there. Why not there are special Bonuses for that.

Best of all as you see the L$ increase on the “Pay Me” Button as soon as you reach a 10L$ limit – just push it and you get payed the amount. Well without any fractions of it since Lindens only handle whole L$.

Do not forget the Sponsor Button all to the right we gives you this incredible opportunity to earn better L$ then hibernating for hours on a camping char between zombies!

Since it is not the final release and may contain some Bugs (why does that sound familiar) you get a new user bonus of 5L$ right away!

Some regions may not allow flying – so there is a powerful flight script inside the Hud. When you get above 100m it should work. Well except the parcels where flying is completly not allowed. So chack when you arrive if you may be in a “No Script” zone and try to reach a hight of 100+m by pressing the “PageUp” Key.

The latest version is also given away at The Turbo Sand Box (24h autoretu, Turbo (182, 113, 27) on arrival.

Have fun hopping!

The Hoppy Pay HUD when worn will attach on the top left side of your screen (see photo). Did you see that I received a 0.14 L$ bonus just for teleporting back to my place! 0.14L$ ???? Talk about hard cash! LOL!

Hoppy Pay HUD

Hoppy Pay HUD

If you are a Second Life Explorer like me then this HUD is a nice addition to your earning arsenal. You get to see new places (both boring and exciting places) and get paid for it. If you get tired of all those teleporting then you can always find a camping bench and relax for a while.

I place a copy of Hoppy Pay HUD 1.0.3 at SLExchange but to get the latest version of the Hud visit The Turbo Sand Box.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, Hoppy Pay HUD no longer works!

250L$ Survey

Second Life

I received my very first survey invite from Reperes-Second Life. The survey has a payout of 250L$ to be paid to respondents after the survey period.

Reperes

The survey was about co-creation with Real Life Brands in Second Life and it only took me a few minutes to complete it. Remember, in answering or responding to surveys make sure that you answer them honestly because if not then you take the risk of not being invited to future surveys or research.
