Second Life Bots or simply SLBots

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Bots in Second Life are third party programs used to access the server to perform and automate various tasks like camping, group joining, greeting and even copying/cloning. They are based on LibSecondLife’s code, which is Open Source, and are very lightweight since they’re text only. Unlike, those bots found in mmorpgs and other online games, bots in Second Life are allowed by Linden Labs.

Bots have many useful uses but they also have some not so good use like copying other people’s objects and textures. In this post I will list all the Second Life Bots that I know and provide a little info about them. (more…)

Building A Home In Second Life

Monday, June 30th, 2008

When I first tried Second Life, I didn’t quite get it and left it the same day but the second time I tried it I finally did maybe because I was better informed and got the chance to learn more about it. As I explore this virtual world I learned a lot about it and have met a lot of people who actually live their lives and spend most of their time in it, a Second Life.

Hands Free Second Life

Below is a YouTube video that demonstrates basic movement without the use of a mouse or a keyboard to control an avatar using this technology. (more…)

Be Dazzled!

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Well, Linden Labs recently released a new First Look Viewer (FLV) named Dazzle and sad to say I was not Dazzled at all. The Dazzle FLV introduced a new color scheme for the viewer’s GUI and although it is an improvement to the regular viewer’s GUI but please it was far from Dazzling. I admit that I like it but it will take more than that to Dazzle me, in fact, OnRez’s Second Life viewer has a more Dazzling GUI, at least for me it is.

Skinless Avatars

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

Last February 5, 2008 there was a skin theft protest at a mall in Scapoli. Out of curiousity, I went to take a look at an actual skin theft protest. An avatar named Thora Charron was there with a huge sign above her head. The sign had the words “stop stealing my work” written on it. A few other personalities were also there but what caught my attention were two avatars, a male and female, wearing a plain white texture as their skin with the words “I’d rather go naked than wear stolen skins”. The white texture skin looked creepier than the default grey skin seen on your avatar while it’s loading.

Skinless Avatar

I didn’t stay very long. I just took my snapshots and then logged out. My guess is, protest like this will become a common sight in Second Life, at least until Linden Labs finds a real solution to the problem. (more…)
