A few days ago I received an e-mail from Franks Martinek about their research panel in Second Life called eLab City Panel for the University of California (Riverside). I was at my place just relaxing, listening to Pinoy music and thinking of how to better conserve prims. For land owners and renters, prim count is very important because we do not want to go above our prim limit. Extra prims cost money!

There I was doing almost nothing when suddenly I received a message and a notecard from MTL Research Panel. Woot! Finally, after months of being set aside or screened out MTL invited me to participate in a survey.

After reading the notecard, I realized that its a general survey where in all members were invited. The survey is like an additional screening process to help them match members to suitable surveys or research projects.

As a token of their appreciation, members who will complete the survey will receive 500L$. Not bad for a few minutes of clicking radio boxes and pushing buttons. LOL!

The thing I noticed about MTL is that your payment is sent to you once your survey form is completed. I guess they don’t like for their members to wait for their money which is really nice. I have already finished mine and I’m now 500L$ richer. Woot!

To join the Research Panel, please use the Panel Registration kiosk in our Second Life office. L$250 will be paid to you, as a token of our appreciation, just for joining and completing the preference form. If membership of the panel is closed, you can register your interest in joining and we will notify you when membership reopens.

Panel membership is restricted to Second Life residents who have verified accounts and are at least 30 days old. Only one panel membership is allowed per real life person.

For some weird reason, I found myself in a small office on a 512 sq2m lot. It was weird because I was supposed to land somewhere else. The small office has a sign that says Using the Soap Box and inside there was another sign with instructions on how to earn some Linden Dollars.

Touching the soap will give you the URL to Link Soap Box’s blog which will open in an external browser but if you are using OnRez Second Life Viewer then it will open inside the viewer as seen on the screenshot. Research Panels or Groups conducts research studies through surveys and the results of these studies are used by businesses both in Second Life and in Real Life. The problem with these paid survey service is that not everyone can do them. They cater mostly to US Second Life residents and to a few non-US Second Life residents.

The most important thing that attracted me to Second Life is the ability to create and build things in-world. I find it fascinating and intriguing that is why during my first weeks I did nothing but learn how to build objects in Second Life. In fact, I started 3 Stars and a Sun as a personal Sand Box.

Good creators like builders, scripters, fashion designers, landscapers, texture and skin makers can always put up a shop to sell their creations or they can offer their skills to other businesses that needs them.

Other Ways to Earn L$

There are other ways of earning L$ in Second Life like setting up a business but that’s too complicated and takes a lot of time. Another way and also an easy way to earn L$ is to become an Escort but I wouldn’t suggest that path unless of course you really want to. A much more easy way to earn L$ is to beg for it but again I also wouldn’t suggest it. What I can suggest is, if you have a blog or a website, that you blog about it. You’ll earn linden dollars from referral links like for example First Opinions Panel pays 100L$ for every new member you refer. Another example is Slam-X which pays 50L$ per referral.
