The Land Called Samurai Japan

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

This week, I had the chance to visit mikeD Streeter’s latest Role Play region/sim in Second Life, the land called Samurai Japan. Obviously, Samurai Japan is a region greatly inspired by ancient Japan, although, I’m not particularly sure what time period was it actually based on but I can safely say that it’s based on a  very old Japan. You know, that period in time when Samurais and Ninjas exist, where people live and die by the sword and where code and honor is above everything else.

I learned about Samurai Japan from a group announcement sent through The Roman Empire group (SL Roman Empire) which is also a owned by mikeD Streeter. The group notice contained a landmark that took me to Samurai Japan. (more…)

Give Yourself A Reward

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

I just found out about this from mikeD Streeter, owner of The Roman Empire and The Spartan Empire sims and AnimateMe! It seems that he just launched a new program or service called Second Life Rewards. So, what is it? Well, Second Life Rewards is a loyalty program for Second Life which offers discounts from partner stores to card carrying members. To make it simple, if you are a member of Second Life Rewards and you buy something from a Second Life Rewards partner store while carrying your Second Life Rewards membership card then you’ll get some discount from your purchase. The discounts available to members are 10%, 15% and 20% of the original price. (more…)

The Roman Empire 10,000L$ Contest Winner

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Last January 1, 2008 I announced here at Kabalyero.com the 10,000 Linden Dollar Contest of The Roman Empire. To discuss briefly, to join the contest you are required to create a video which showcases what The Roman Empire can offer. My first video was centered on The Gladiator Fights so that one was not accepted and because of that, I created a new one titled Rockin’ The Roman Empire.

WAR! Rome and Nordhaven

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

A state of war exist between The Roman Empire and Nordhaven. It started when a group of Roman’s invaded Nordhaven but when they found the place to be deserted they started burning down the immediate area instead (see Burning Down Nordhaven). This act angered the Nordhaven Chief and declared hostility against The Roman Empire. He then led a series of attacks or raids against their new enemy, The Roman Empire.

Killed While Rezzing

I wasn’t able to witness the earlier raids by Nordhaven but I was there during the last one. It wasn’t my best day that day because lag was terrible. It was so terrible that I couldn’t attached my weapons. This forced me to re-logged my account. When you login into Second Life, you’ll have to wait a while to let your attachments and surrounding to rez ((to visually appear)) and during this rezzing period I was attacked. I wasn’t able to defend myself because I was still rezzing. I did the only thing I can do at that moment and that was to run away. Well, running did me no good because the place hasn’t fully rezzed making me unable to see where I was running. I eventually got cornered and killed. If you look at the screenshot below none of my attachments rezzed and if I wasn’t wearing pants then I would be butt naked. LOL!

RP

Getting killed early unabled me to participate in the battle. Why? Come on! You don’t get up and fight after being killed because you are already dead. I guess that’s just me. It’s an RP sim and it’s an RP battle. Getting up and fighting after you are killed will only make it hard to judge who won. Even if there are no moderators or arbiters, RP players should learn to moderate themselves and follow basic RP rules (if their are any). Luckily, The Roman Empire sim is not very strict on RP. So, you can be both yourself and your character at the same time which can be sometimes confusing because anyone can be rude to you and then give you the RP excuse. LOL!

New Weapon Rules

Both Nordhaven and The Roman Empire agreed to ban or disallow the use of DCS Enhanced Weapons during events like the WAR and Tournaments. These include weapons with impale scripts, fire scripts or any damage dealing scripts, throwing daggers and spears. To make the fights fair, only normal weapons can be used. Unfortunately, not everyone follows rules like I do. LOL! If I remembered correctly, I was impaled once. Who? I don’t know, I was busy running away! LOL!

This led me to ask some questions which kinda got a little too long which eventually irate someone. LOL! Oh well, I was just asking questions to further understand the what and why of things. I stopped talking after that because I’m afraid if I continue with my questions and expressing my observations that it would be perceived as complaining, which is not, and I might get banned from the place.

Tournament: The Roman Empire versus Nordhaven

After the raid, a tournament was held but I was lagging badly to compete and besides I wasn’t that good anyway. LOL!

Weapons With 10 Meter Ranges

Christmas Tournament

Today, I logged Kabalyero Kidd in to participate in The Roman Empire’s Christmas Tournament. Unfortunately, only four gladiators entered the Tournament and they were:

  • Blackwell Huet
  • Sadie Flanagan
  • Scipio Tuqiri
  • and Kabalyero Kidd (my avatar)

I had the honor of fighting Sir Scipio in the first round and I was lucky enough to emerged the victor of that match. The second and third round wasn’t very fruitful because I have to fight two of Rome’s great gladiators; Sir Blackwell and Lady Sadie. I was defeated in a matter of minutes (or was it just seconds) by both of them.

The final match was between Lady Sadie and Sir Blackwell. It was an intense battle. Lady Sadie put up a great fight but Sir Blackwell emerged the victor. His prize as Champion of the Christmas Tournament was a Gladius.

Sir Enrich immediately called all the gladiators and gave an order to attack Sir Blackwell but it was fruitless. Sir Blackwell defeated us all.

10 Meters? Could be even more!

After the tournament, I spent some time inside the Coliseum waiting for someone to spar with. I love to spar and practice because I want to be a great champion like Sir Blackwell too. LOL! After a while, a warrior came and asked to spar with me. The warrior’s name was Gabe Liotta. His weapon of choice was a spear but it was no ordinary spear for it has a great range and I used my sparring weapon, a Kendo Stick. Our next fight was even weirder because I was like 10 meters away from him (even more I think) and still he was landing massive strikes on me. I ask him to hold because it was really weird but he continued his attacks. He then ran away after the fight.

Later, Sir Enrich explained that my opponent, Gabe Liotta, was using a modified spear and that 10 meter ranges are a common modification. Arrgghhh! No wonder he did not like to be addressed as Sir, he wasn’t worthy of the title. LOL! Not even my legally enhanced Hellfire sword would be a match to a spear with a range of 10 meters (or even more). I have learned from that experience that such weapons exist and not all warriors fight with HONOR. I have added Gabe Liotta to my list of dishonorable warriors in Second Life (the first one) and will never spar with him again even in a level playing field.
